Twin Obelisks for Brownie and Clifford Brown Listening Garden

This park and sculpture is dedicated to Wilmington’s prolific and celebrated Bebop trumpeter and composer Clifford Brown and acknowledges his mentors and peers in the seminal traditions of American Jazz. It is located in a Greenway park along the Brandywine River.  Designed by Rick Rothrock the Clifford Brown Listening Garden includes the central stone sculpture, memorial benches, chess bench, mosaic paving, and granite enclosed speakers.  Motion detectors sense movement and a random selection of Clifford Brown's music plays from an interactive sound system emanating from speakers surrounding the central sculpture.
