ARTPARK, NY

Artpark was founded in 1974, one year after Robert Smithson's death. It had an artist's residency program in his honor and became an important site for works of the Land Art movement. In 1978, University of Delaware graduate students of sculpture went to Artpark and installed an earthwork.  Rick made a detailed grid map of the park,  marked the grid spot intersections on the land with lime,  photographed each grid mark, then displayed the photo composite in a gallery in Delaware. Through the photographs, Rick developed a way for the viewer in Delaware to have an abstract perception of experiencing the physical space of Artpark  and develop a connection to this important place of art.
